2nd anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Türkiye

An event will be held in Parliament to mark the 2nd anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Türkiye, with several speakers in attendance. A film about the earthquake, created by director Erkan Gürsel, will be screened, followed by a discussion on the earthquake's impacts with the other speakers. The official death toll has been reported as 53,537, with 107,213 people injured.

Panelists: 

Prof. Joanna Faure Walker: Professor of Earthquake Geology and Disaster Risk Reduction Erkan Gürsel:is a researcher and filmmaker from Antakya, based between the UK and Turkey. Yörük İlhan Kurtaran: is Born in Ankara raised in Istanbul, living in London; has been involved with civil society for 20 years. Worked in TESEV, TUSIAD, Willows Foundation TOG and Bilgi University’s Centre for Civil Society Studies.

Documentary Screening:  No.910 (2024, Türkiye) is a forty-eight-minute documentary film which is directed by Erkan Gürsel exploring the impacts of the 2023 earthquakes on the neighbourhood of Affan in the city of Antakya, Türkiye.

Political-Social Impacts: Panelists  will discuss impact of deadly earthquakes in Türkiye from political and social perspectives. Türkiye government response to regions impacted from earthquakes and situation of these regions after 2 years of disaster.
